November Journal 2020

24 Nov 2020

I must apologize for my lack of writing up this year, it seems like everything is just not going according to plan. Now I know that is not with just me, but with everyone. One would have thought fishing would’ve picked up this year with all the mandates coming down, but other “stuff” has gotten in the way, most of it was myself.

Anyway, the daughter and I headed to Watauga River to try some fly fishing. South Holston has been generating 24/7 for quite a while now, and the last time I went up there………., well I’ll just say that common courtesy has gone the way of common sense, it doesn’t appear to be all that common anymore. So we thought we’d try a few spots on the Watauga. The girl had taken her fly rod, waders, and boots with her, she said just in case she wants to go after work.        Yes I did wipe a tear from my eye when she said that.

So off we went, the first spot left little to no room for a back cast, so roll casting was the trick. After a while of no bites, we headed to another spot. This one took a few steps to get to, but we were able to cast and there was a bit of current (I don’t have the patience for the slightly still water). I looked up to watch her casting after a bit, and she was putting out more line than I and it was landing softly in the water, she has gotten the hang of this. She got a couple of bites but didn’t catch any.

We sat on a park bench and I changed her fly for her and then showed her how to break her clippers by hanging it in the park bench………  hmmmmm, I simply told her that cursing at this point, does not help any.

We fished a bit more and honestly had a ball. Didn’t catch any, but it sure was a good time on the water with few people present. I’m hoping she’s getting hooked on the river, but I did keep her waders this time so she should at least invite me to go with her next time she heads out.

Thanksgiving came and we were able to spend time with the family, it was a good time. And in other news, my son was finally able to find a house and we are in the process of moving. Mercy, we are going to have the empty nest thing, but I don’t think I could be any prouder of my youngens (not young no more). It’s been a good holiday season so far, and I am looking forward to Christmas. Hopefully by the end of the month, I’ll have some stuff to write up, but don’t hold your breath. If I’ve learned anything this year, it is not to get too excited about something, cause man things are changing in an instant.

Have a great December and God bless
