September Journal 2019

29 Sept 2019

My apologies, I took the daughter fishing during the remodel (it’s still going on by the way) but couldn’t seem to find time to write it up, so let me just give a bit of info. The sun was setting and the score was tied, 4-4. I had hooked one beast on a Ned Rig but it had broken my line, it was like setting the hook on a rock, but then the rock took off swimming, shortly after, snap. She says we can’t end on a tie so we go close to the ramp and fish a wall. I see a v on the water, thinking it may be a fish, she encourages me to throw there, while she fishes the rock. Well, she hooks a nice hybrid and is excited. When we release the fish, I see a striper bust some shad, I grab the TFR Custom Jig, then she uses that rod and gives me the other, my swim bait rod is fantastic and she loves it as well. After a few minutes, she gets bit, says I got one, and it pulls off drag for a bit, then gets off. It looked like a nice one, but the night ended on me losing 5-4, way to go Kayleigh.

Sunday afternoon I needed a break from the remodel and headed to the river for just a bit. Within an hour I had caught 8 trout, 3 of them would not fit into a sardine can, so they were pretty nice. My gray midge was doing well, the other choices did ok, but not nearly as good, but if you like fishing size #20 dries, now may be the time for you to head up there.

Sorry this is so short, you’re probably saying thank you, but with the remodel job and work, I am a bit covered up right now. I sneak off to fish when I can but the good news is, part of the bathroom is now useable. The bathtub and tile work will be put on delay for a bit, but we are doing 95% of it ourselves and I don’t know what I am doing, that is not a good combination, but I shall save a bit of cash.

Hope everyone had a great week or two and it looks like fall may make an appearance in a week or so. Enjoy the cooler weather and have a great week, God bless.

01 Sept 2018

Sunday evening rolls around and I thought I’d take the father in law out for a fishing trip. Intentions were to bass fish then maybe try to find some crappie, I’m certainly not good enough with the electronics for the second part, but hey, that was just a shot anyway.

So we started off with some bass fishing. I initially caught a couple of small ones, but we weren’t doing very well. This may have been due to the scorching sun and my fantastic choice to fish in the hottest part of East Tennessee. After I lost most all of my water weight, we decided to fish the other side of the lake, a bit of shade on the bank. This bank is usually pretty good and produces a few fish and today was no different.

Using my faithful Ned Rig in the PB&J and Perfect Perch colors, the fishing got better. More bites came our way and size was pretty good. We did not take pics of all the fish, a reason is, you have two more experienced in life anglers fishing. Glasses are required for any type of reading with these two. We catch one and it takes us longer than the fish liked holding there breath to get the camera to work. We finally got things ironed out and took a few.

The nicer fish came after the sun had set, one particular small mouth jumped what looked like 2-3’ high about three times with the third landing in the net. I don’t believe it is wise to spend a bunch of money on a rod and use the rod to lift a nice fish out of the water onto the boat. If I had a sponsor willing to replace my rods, I probably would, or if I was in a big hurry for a tournament, again I probably would. However, we are just kicked back fishing and used a net, which is fun to removed the hook after releasing the fish (without glasses). Anyway, I ended up with around 8 or so bass, not sure how many the father in law caught, but it was a good day.

We searched around a few spots I thought might have some crappie, but if they were there, they did not like what I had out for them. I had placed a green light in the water, it appears to attract fish that were bigger the longer we stayed, but I may not have the patience to stay long enough.

Apologies for the brevity (I think that means briefness) of the entry, but really, nothing bad happened and it was a good trip. This weekend may be my last for a couple of weeks as the remodel of the bathroom shall begin real soon. We’ll see how that goes, I may have to take a trip for sanity sake. I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend, God bless.
