Yep, it’s wet

For the fishing report, well, the fish were not biting in the driveway this past weekend. Mercy there is water everywhere, which for a fisherman sounds good, but I drove by Boone and didn’t see a boat. If you do go out, man be careful, a lot of stuff floating in the water. It was also a nice Mocha color in parts. The current from Beaver Creek was pretty high, it’s just a tough situation for fishing.

The generators on South Holston are sluicing but not an awful lot. From what I got figured (this is a disclaimer so that you won’t take anything I say about this as the gospel. It’s not fake news, but simply my opinion) way downstream they are getting all the water from up here. They have to clear out some of that before South Holston can let go too much. Boone with the Dam having the repair work done, can’t get too full and a lot of water is flowing into it from other creeks and streams.

Some of the pics and videos from further down stream have been tough. Lakes at summer levels, I think I saw that some were going even higher, just a whole lot of water. Remember don’t drive through puddles, they may be deeper than you think. This is a good time to help a neighbor or do what you can to assist. If you’ve ever wondered why the TVA brings the lakes down in the winter, I reckon you don’t have to wonder any longer.

The fishing reports will be few and far between until things level out, sorry but that isn’t what is important right now. Folks are going to be dealing with the aftermath of flooding for a while, remember them in your prayers. I hope you get a chance to get out there soon and if you do, be careful on the water, the debris is probably everywhere. Take care and God bless, we’ll be talking to you later.

19 Feb 2019

So far this month, my fishing has not been quite like I had hoped. The first weekend of the month was the Watson’s Open House. I was unable to attend as a vendor due to some unforeseen circumstances at the house. On a good note however, my plumbing skills were getting honed.

The temperature so far this winter has been great, I am not a big fan of the cold anymore. However, with the mild temperatures, we have seen a lot of rain. I reckon that is better than snow, but it has put a damper on the fishing. The generators on the rivers seem like they have not stopped much if any since November. This has decreased the winter fly fishing I have enjoyed for the past several years. I have taken spurts of getting out there and caught a few, but nothing really worth writing about. Please don’t take this as a complaint, it certainly is not meant that way, just wanted to keep the page up to date.

The remainder of the month may see me get out, but probably won’t take the boat. The trolling motor was acting fishy last few times we went out. This is not surprising as I bought it used many years ago and it was really used when I got it. The electrical tape is over most all of the wiring now as dry rot has eaten most of it, but it appears to be on it’s last leg. This puts me in the market for a new one. I’ve decided to get the wireless (my used one was a wireless) and have been overwhelmed by the prices. I’m still pondering which one, but will probably go with the least expensive, unless I convince myself that I need the down imaging. That looks like a nice set up, but then I’d have to get a new fishfinder, the price keeps rising.

Let me apologize for not having any good fish pics, no stories of my antics while out, sometimes things just work that way. I did some plumbing that would have taken a plumber one hour,  in only 2 full days, till the next weekend when I spent another half day, however, I did save $200. The rain has fallen consistently and I’ve not spent too much time out in it, but, I have been able to complete a frog rod and working on another for sheepshead fishing. I’ve gotten quite a bit accomplished, at least I think it’s a lot, don’t ask the wife, and looking forward to the spring. I’m chomping at the bit to try a new trolling motor that I can click a button and it hold me in a spot while I do some other stuff. I am looking forward to the spring, not to wish away my life, but to see what can be accomplished on the water this year. If you’ve gotten out fishing, know that I am jealous and I hope you had a great day. Have a great month and God bless.
