Watts Bar Lake Fishing Report:           09 Dec 2020

Reservoir Conditions: The lake is at winter pool. The water temperature is in the 40’s and 50’s depending on the ambient temperature.

Crappie: Most crappie are being caught around deeper docks or blowdowns in the creeks. Several crappie are being caught in the slow water near Ft. Loudoun Dam. Use minnows or jigs. A lot of crappie are being caught.

Bass: Fish the “Rig” around points and steeper banks. Swimbaits and crankbaits are being used. Some anglers are reporting good catches while other anglers struggle.

Catfish: Fishing is good. Drift the main channel with natural baits.

Bluegill: Fish around docks and rock bluffs. Use worms or crickets for bait. Fishing is good.

Striped Bass: Swimbaits, spoons, the “Rig”, and shad are being used for bait. The mid lake has the greater number of stripers now.

Walleye: Some fish are being caught along the bottom in the upper river. Use jigs, spoons or shad for bait.

Shellcracker: Use worms or small jigs in the sloughs below Ft. Loudoun Dam.

Reservoir Conditions: The water surface temperature is in the 50’s. The lake elevation is winter normal.

Largemouth Bass: Bass are being caught while using lipless lures, jigs, and the Tennessee Rig. Flats and points on the main lake are popular areas among anglers.

Smallmouth Bass: Fish are being caught while using the Tennessee Rig around main lake points.

Crappie: Fish blowdowns on steep creek banks. Sunken brush in 15 feet of water and deeper docks are also good areas to fish. Minnows or jigs can be used for bait.

Catfish: Good. Smaller baits catch the numbers and larger baits catch the bigger fish most of the time. Use meaty baits.

Bluegill: Worms are being used around docks or rocky banks.

Shellcracker: Use worms or small jigs in the slow water below Ft. Loudon Dam.

Walleye/Sauger: Spillgates are open at Ft. Loudon Dam. Conditions are not great for bottom fishing. Some anglers are catching a few fish while using jigs.Striped Bass: The mid lake is better for catching striped bass right now. Fish the points with a Tennessee Rig.
