It’s Madness I didn’t Fish Till March
13 March 2020
Â
I hope everyone has been having a great year so far. As for me, busy, a whole lot going on with rod building, home chores, and stuff, but I finally got to go wet a line the other day.
Thursday for me was tax day. I have to have paperwork in by 15 March (I think) and the prices I got from outside sources would have put me in the negative on earnings for the year, so year #2 of me doing it myself. Let me say that my blood pressure Thursday was not in the normal range, why oh why is it all that complicated. Anyway, if I start ranting about taxes, this blog will take a different turn.
So Friday the daughter was off work and we headed to Boone. Now fishing reports have been scarce, we have a virus going around, as some of you may have heard about, and some other things going on that have superseded the fishing reports. That’s ok cause we going to have fun anyhow.
The daughter backed the truck to unload me and then go park. It took about 5 minutes, but the boat finally started, shew, the first trip is like that for me. We didn’t have a clue where to fish so we just decided to wing it. We find a bank, put down trolling motor and my fish finder doesn’t work. Looks like someone let the battery go to dead and this one it now toast. This is the little 8 amp batter I have and it was a year old, so I read on the side, don’t let it drop below 10v or could cause damage, it was at 5. Looks like I’ll get me another battery.
We fished a bit, both on the PB&J Ned Rig, then she switched it up. I thought crank bait but honestly, it’s just not my think to throw unless I see fish to throw at, so I switched to a crappie jig (hand tied by TFR of TNFishingReport) sorry about the ad, but hey it did work. I had seen some small minnows swimming and thought this might work, and low and behold I got one. It was a nice one, it’s bigger than it looks, I am just getting too fat, makes my fish look small.
We fished around for a couple hours, with that one being the only catch and maybe one or two more bites. The important thing that I reminded Kayleigh of was that I caught a fish and she did not. It was a great day to be on the water, daughter and I had a real good time and I am thinking that this would be a great way to Quarantine.
Also, I finished my biggest weave to date on a fishing rod, 142 pieces of thread, 180 would go completely around the rod. I am working on the grips, but just can’t get them right. Let me say that if you ever do want custom work done, I am by no means fast, however, it will look the way you want it to look. Hope everyone has a great week and God bless, hope to get out more, maybe the weather, the chores, and things will work out for us.
