Fishing Report:

The South Holston has been on fire this week during our float trips. The TVA started doing an around the clock generation this week and this has the fish staged up in feeding lanes. boy they are hungry. We have been using deep nymph rigs as well as 5″ articulated streamers as we float. With the rains at the end of this week we will more than likely continue to see some heavy generation and as you can see the fishing will be great, Give me a call at 423-360-1468 or contact me through my website, www.trout-fishers.net to get yourself a float trip scheduled.

Tightlines and heavy nets!!!

The Watauga Tailwater is really coming into its own as a brown trout fishery. The recent snow melt had the water temperature in the upper thirties to lower forties. The BWO’s and midges were coming off and there were some sporadic rises of fish feeding on the  emergers. The streamer bite is on, the Watauga gave us a great gift today, this young man fought a hard battle with this great warrior and was very appreciative to be able to hold him and get this picture. If you want to learn all the ins and outs of fishing streamers, give me a call and lets get you out there learning how to catch one of these great trophy’s.  18 Feb 2012

The South Holston Tailwater near Bristol, Tennessee has been giving us some really great floats the early part of 2012. The TWRA at its Coldwater Meeting said the river is really loaded with browns, and we are seeing that o out trips. On a recent trip we boated over 40 browns, Their colors are so vibrant, butter bellies and deep red spots, and the fight they give is tremendous. We also caught some nice rainbows in full spawn color. The weather was cold and rainy but the fishing action helped keep us warm. Be sure to give me a call at 423-360-1468, or email me atfishwithrandy@embarqmail.com to get scheduled for one of our float trips.  04 Feb. 2012

The Winter Trip Special floats on the South Holston have been great. The browns are hungry and feeding. Lots of size 18 to 22 BWO’s coming off as well as size 24 black midges. The TVA has been giving some windows of opportunity for wading, just keep an eye on the schedule. During those times the wading has been awesome, lots of BWO’s and the sporadic Sulphur coming off. Give us a call at 423-360-1468 or email: fishwithrandy@embarqmail.com if you want to get out and take advantage of the great fishing the South Holston Tailwater has to offer. 03 January 2012  Below are a couple of the browns caught on one of the winter trip special floats:

The South Holston has been fishing very well. The TVA is giving a break in the generation schedule allowing some afternoon wading time slots. The browns are in spawn mode and they are staged up all over the river. When the generation is on we have been having great success throwing the Ginger-n-Peaches and Double Mint streamers. The TWRA closed sections are still in effect so we lay the rods down and enjoy a hearty cup of coffee while floating through these waters. When the generation stops and the water drops, small grey Midges, BWO’s and Blackflies are the hatches. When fishing for the low water browns, a yellow Egg pattern is the best fly with a Zebra Midge dropper. Don’t forget to look just below the redds for the rainbows stacked up feeding on the eggs that flush free. Our Winter Trip Specials are still in effect until March 10th, 2012. Give me a call 423-360-1468 or email me, fishwithrandy (at) embarqmail.com to get out on the river and catch one of these trophy browns. 20 December 2011

South Holston float, caught on a Ginger-n-Peaches

Can you see this female brown, she is approx. 25 inches in length

The South Holston is seeing a good migration of the browns moving to the spawning zones and they are feeding heavily as they travel. The colors on these fish are amazing. They are deep nymphing techniques are working very well in the deep seams, some of the better fish came on “big uglies” this past week. The sulphurs are still coming off sporadically, but the BWO’s are now becoming the predominant hatch. 24 Oct 2011

Fishing Repor: The South Holston has been great with the 340 cfs sluice for the last week. The water is gin clear calling for longer softer cast and fine tippets. There have had been heavy afternoon sulphur hatches. The clients are catching many nice browns during the hatches. If you are going to fish the coming week, use some low water stealthy tactics. There is nothing like the topwater bite as this young man can attest to. October 2, 2011
