Fishing Report: Greg Clark the owner operator of Hidden Cove Marina set out on a fishing trip. I just now got the pics, they must have gotten lost out there in mobil phone world. The 2.5 hour fishing trip produced 3 smallmouth and 5 stripers, daughert caught her first smallie today. Greg is using minnows, live and gulp, fishing in the creek channels about 150 yards off of the bank. If you get a chance to get out, the stripers appear to be biting right now. 18 Dec 2011
Greg went on a fishing trip in North Carolina and here are a couple of the fish they caught. Added them to the gallery, however, they were too nice to not have separated, they look like they were caught in Alaska:
This morning Greg went out fishing for just a couple of hours on Boone Lake. They fished from 9am to 11am and caught 14 stripers, about the size of the ones in the pics. They caught them on Gulp minnow and creek minnows. Not exactly sure of where, but Hidden Cove is located on the Watauga side of Boone Lake. If you want to catch a few stripers, go out fishing on these nice December days we are having. Thank Greg for the information. 14 Dec 2011 A couple of today’s catch:
Greg got to go out this weekend and they caught a few stripers, the two biggest were 37″ and 32″. He was trolling shad on the Watauga side toward the Dam from his dock. On the weekend you should see other boats in the area where they are hitting. No weight on the line, just pulling behind using the trolling motor.
The bass also appeared to be running the shad near the banks. If you are striper fishing, you may want to flip a shad out near the bank and see how you do. Or if you might want to give a crank bait a whirl for the bass right now. 16 November 2011
This is Greg’s boat, he is a Bullet Bass Boat Dealer, this thing will fly:
We have some photos coming soon in addition to the report. Greg only got to get out on the water for about an hour, but in that time he was able to pull in a 39″ Striper (pic coming soon). The majority of them have appeared to move out of the cove and mouth of the river area and have headed into the lake. Typically this time of year, flat line (no weight) tends to do well. Also, a fluke might work if you can’t find the shad. This should be a good weekend for the stripers.
The bass appear to be hitting spinner baits and bandits. He was unable to get out after the bass this week, however, from what is being told these seem to be your best bet in pulling in a few bass. A couple of weeks ago a rattle trap was pretty effective if you wan to give one a whirl. Stop by and tell Greg thanks, he’ll help you with your boating needs at the dock. 02 November 2011
A cold front has just moved in and things have slightly slowed down, temporarily. The bass fishing they are catching a few on plastic around the docks. Today they were fishing it real slow and doing pretty well. Another gentleman was using crankbaits and he did OK, but not a great day. In this cold front, you may want to slow it down a little.
The Striper fishing is giong pretty good, however the heavy action still isn’t here yet. Looking back at old photos, it appeared November was the month it really picked up. One gentleman is catching around 4-5 using chicken livers, while some folks are catching a couple a day on shad. Stop by Hidden Cove Marina and thank Greg and let him help ou with your boat repairs. 19 Oct. 2011
Gonna leave last weeks information up, the stripers still appear to be hanging around the mouth of the river. Now this is not to say that you won’t do well in the lake, however, they just don’t appear as if they have come in just yet to start hitting as they typically do in the fall. Leaves were falling a little with the previous rain and it is cooling down. They may end up in the lake next time you are out, but as of now am not hear too much or seeing too much action yet.
The bass with no specifics on large or smallmouth seem to be hitting pretty good. Spoke with one individual who did very well. He fishes a lot, however, he caught over 20 using crankbaits and spinner baits. The best spot of the day was around a dock, he pulled in a bunch there and yielded a couple 4 pounders. A lot of 2-3 pounder were also a part of the catch. 12 October 2011
Well they are catching a few stripers and Greg caught a hybrid the other day at the dock using a spoon. It appears that the stripers are following under the schools of shad, however, they are not starting to come up and hit real well just yet. Pay some attention to the leaves, when they begin to fall, the striper fishing may get real good. They are catching some stripers, flat lines as well as 10-15 ft deep. They are hitting, just not real good just yet.
The smallmouth report is that you may want to try using a Bandit crankbait, there have been a few caught with these and right now, live bait might be a good bet. 05 Oct. 2011
